Eminem's song about his entrance into the world of rap music is not all that different then the challenge facing three Kryptonite Girls in England. At the 41st Winmau World Masters, Sandy Hudson, Paula Murphy and Marlise Kiel all had their chance and played in the two qualifiers before the main event as well. This is the toughest room in women's darts each year with hundreds of competitors from around the world. They took turns as the American player with the highest finish.
In the BDO World Trophy Qualifier Paula made a run to the Top 4 and was only one win away from qualifying while Sandy was dumped in the first round. Marlise was late arriving in Hull so she skipped this event to rest.
The rest paid off as Marlise finished in the Top 8 of the Lakeside Qualifier the next day, she was 2 rounds away from earning a spot. Both Paula and Sandy earned Top 16 finishes.
With the qualifiers behind them they focused on the main event, the Winmau World Masters. Marlise and Paula both played well but were knocked out in the 2nd round. Sandy went on to finish higher than any American player in the tournament at Top 32. Next year is another year and another chance for an American to break through in this prestigious event.
Back in the States, several players were competing in local events. Kirsten McCandless, Bette Cunningham, Morgan McCormack and Valerie Goad all found success in local qualifiers and tournaments.
