June 2K16
June kicks off the summer season and tournaments start to slow across the American tour. Still, there are some highly competitive events that captured the K-Girls attention in Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee and beyond. Sometimes they are burning up the back roads and sometimes they are getting stranded in airports, just another day on the
road with the Kryptonite Girls.

Beacon of Hope Tournament
Pam and Vicki Briggs are in their 4th year of operating the Beacon of Hope Tournament helping enhance the lives of those with developmental disabilities. The event has been a success and has grown each year thanks to the hard work of the Briggs sisters and their staff. So many local darters and tournaments help support this unique event and they have raised thousands of dollars through the years, nonetheless they had an optimistic goal of raising $10,000 this year, challenge accepted and surpassed. Wow, what an great job by all those involved.
Things that go Boom!!!
Two explosive tournaments were held the last weekend on the month in Tennessee and Florida. Paula Murphy had a nice weekend at the Cherry Bomb International in Deerfield Beach, FL where she won both Cricket and 501 Singles as well as Cricket Doubles. She was Top 4 in both Mixed Doubles events and Top 8 in the 501 Pro Shoot and 501 Doubles.
Candra Archbold and Sandy Haas teamed up at the Firecracker Tournament in Chattanooga, TN. Together they won Cricket Doubles and finished 2nd in Doubles 501. Sandy would also win both Mixed Doubles events, finish 2nd in Cricket Singles and Top 8 in 501 Singles. Candra was Top 4 in Mixed Triples and Top 8 in Singles Cricket. Gem City Open/Wreck at the Deck
Kay Hoover had a nice tournament in Dayton, Ohio at the Gem City Open. She won both Cricket and 501 Singles as well as Mixed Triples and Doubles Combo.
Meanwhile in North Carolina Lora Josey was returning to action for the first time following ACL Surgery. She competed at the Wreck at the Deck tournament and opted to only play Saturday not wanting to overdo it too early, still she played well enough to post three Top 16 finishes in Cricket Singles, Doubles Cricket and Mixed Triples. |
Central Virginia Dart Classic
In Richmond, VA Paula Murphy and Kay Hoover were on hand for the Central Virginia Dart Classic. Paula was in fine form all weekend as she captured both 501 and Cricket Singles events. She also won both Ladies Doubles Titles and the Cricket Blind Draw. She was
Top 4 in Mixed Doubles 501 and Top 16 in the 501 Blind Draw. Kay lost to Paula, finishing 2nd in both Doubles events and won the Mixed Doubles Cricket event. CDC Events 3 & 4
Nobody ever said Corrine Stockton was afraid of the competition. She was yet again the only female player on hand for the CDC's recent event in Cleveland, OH. She endured a cancelled flight and a sleep over in an airport to barely make the first day of the event. She lost in the first round both days, 5-1 to Chris McFarland on Saturday and 5-0 to Todd Knecht on Sunday.
ADO National Qualifiers
Corrine Stockton won the Area 1-3 National Qualifier held in Fairfield, CA. to punch her ticket to the ADO 501 National Championship. She joins several K-Girls in Stamford this summer as Paula Murphy and Marlise Kiel have National team invitations. Other National Qualifier winners are Bette Cunningham, Shannon Vitale and Morgan McCormack.
America's Cup Preview
Sandy Hudson will be in Barbados to defend the USA's Team Gold Medal in the 2016 World Darts Federation's America's Cup. She will be joined by fellow K-Girl Sandy Haas who will be representing her country for the first time in international play. The event will take place July 9-11 at the historic Crane Resort. Joe Chaney and Robbie Phillips round out the team defending the Cup. This year the ADO will also send two youth players in Tyler Burnett and Kerena Reese.
