Paula "Smooth" Murphy - Orange Park, Florida
Paula is one of the rare America players that is able to compete at the highest levels of traditional steel tip darts and in electronic darts. "Darts are darts" to Paula but make no mistake, she is a "killer' on any type of board.
She was born in Pensacola, Florida and nows lives in Orange Park, Florida. In 1987 her husband Bill introduced her to electronic darts as a recreational activity near their home. Paula began playing for fun but soon become a pretty good local player. It was in the early 1990's that she met the late Jim Boan of Atlanta Darts and he helped get her start in the sport of steel tip darts.
Paula played her first steel tip tournament in Melbourne, Florida at the Space Coast Spectacular and traveled to some regional events as well. But about five years into playing steel tip events she began to see the game she loved in a different way, she began to take the game seriously and the rest, as they say, is history. Paula began winning a lot of soft tip events and her steel tip game was developing nicely.
In recent years she has simply become one of our countries best players. She has won three ADO Cricket National Championships her first in 2008 and most recently 2013. She qualified to represent America in the 2008 Winmau World Masters and says she still hopes to be able to return in the future and to make a better showing. She will again play in 2014 The Caribbean Cup, The Florida State Team has won the title on Paula's previous two appearances and she has won the "MVP" in this bi-yearly series.
Paula won the first NWDS event last year in Dayton, OH which helped her win the award for 2013 Top Lady Pro by the NAPDA. At home she is still giving back to the sport she loves, serving the local dart community as League Director. When she 's not playing, she loves spending time with her family, Paula and Bill have a son and three wonderful grandchildren. She also enjoys reading when she has the time, usually thats on an airplane traveling to play darts. Her dart trek has taken her to many places, but she still burns with ambition and admits she would also love to make a WDF World Cup Team.
